Special matinee show to launch new album, Overlove, by talented local songwriter, Geraldine Snell. A free-spirited, sincere and ambitious creative, Geraldine weaves hypnotic synth loops around her classic-theatric vocal potency to craft melodic, ethereal dream-pop entities. 2. WH LUNG, The Trades Club (Hebden Bridge) – Saturday 22nd
Starting off as a studio-only three-piece shrouded in mystery, Manchester’s W. H. Lung have evolved into one of the UK’s most exciting live acts and a forward-thinking synth-pop powerhouse to boot. Last year’s album, the aptly-titled Every Inch Of Earth Pulsates, heralded a triumphant, punchy return, oozing psych-pop dynamism and mantric, electro ascension. More>
3. THE DSM IV + FAT FRANCES, The Golden Lion (Todmorden) – Sunday 23rd
Formed in Liverpool in 2018 by former Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster frontman Guy McKnight, The DSM IV crystallise the ultra-real and the otherworldly, bringing a focused hyperrealism to the party. In support, Todmorden’s Fat Frances deliver “kitchen rock from the swamp”. So there. Another great night from Dark Matter Promotions in the offing. More>
4. THE DIRT + FAKE, The Grayston Unity (Halifax) – Friday 21st
Get ready for this y’all. DIY, high-energy Pennines-based alt-psych punk duo, bringing big bags of heavy guitar loops, distortion, fuzz and punchy percussion with a barrage of fast-firing lyrics. They went down a storm when they played The Golden Lion at the end of last year. That was on a big triple bill for Dark Matter Promotions, sandwiched between Nothingheads and Barbarism. This time, in the Grayston basement, they headline. Todmorden rock quintet, Fake, are the support. Should be cracking. More>
5. GOTH FESTIVAL, The Grayston Unity (Halifax) – Friday 14th-Sunday 16th
A beautiful darkness descends on the Grayston for a weekend of gothly antics. Saturday is the jewel in the crown, featuring a talk with John Robb at 2pm on his book The Art of Darkness – The History of Goth, plus the Dark Halifax Tour (3.30pm) and an in-conversation with Gary Marx of The Sisters of Mercy (4pm). Rounding off the night, legendary goth band Rose Of Avalanche, supported by Dawn of Elysium. More>
6. SHE DREW THE GUN, The Trades Club (Hebden Bridge) – Friday 14th
Over three studio albums and nearly a decade, Wirral-born Louisa Roach has built She Drew The Gun into a visceral musical world, informed by influences ranging across 80s electronica, hip-hop, political poetry and cosmic Scouse psychedelia. More>
7. LES GILLON & THE AGENTS OF KARMA, Mytholmroyd Community Centre – Saturday 22nd
Launch show for debut album, The Underground Session, recorded in a single day at The Underground Studio in Hebden Bridge. Les Gillon is a renowned singer-songwriter and guitarist whose latest musical incarnation with the Agents of Karma sees him harness the collective powers of acoustic guitar, cello, violin piano and hand percussion. Dutch musician Ajay Saggar is back at The Puzzle. Expect psychedelic, kosmiche-raga electro soundscapes with woozy guitar heaviness. New album Bhoy On The Wire! will be on show, no doubt. More>
10. GOLDEN LION’S 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY, The Golden Lion (Todmorden) – Friday 28th February-Sunday 2nd March
Over three days, a veritable feast of electro greats will be championing a decade of The Lion under three themes – ‘the past’, ‘the present’ and ‘the future’. Featuring Yu Su, The Glimmers, Oracle Sound and Justin Robertson. More>
