DIRTY SUNBEAMS’ GIG OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER:
Noise In The Valley Festival, Sowerby Bridge – Saturday 16th November
It’s billed as ‘Yorkshire’s noisiest rock, punk, grunge and folk all-day festival’ and they’ve gone and nailed down a heck of a headliner to prove it. The acclaimed Leeds DIY indie-rock outfit Pulled Apart By Horses are the stonking big name on a line-up of 16 bands across four venues. No set clashes either so you can get to see every single one should the desire take you.
Oh and it’s totally free. Did we mention that? Yes, free! A thing of rare beauty these days. Funded by Culturdale, all in the name of celebrating Yorkshire’s indelible footprint on the grassroots music scene. Keep an eye out for local bands Goo and The Tall Trees among many others. More>
2. CEREMONY EAST COAST + TREMOURS (US), The Golden Lion (Todmorden) – Tuesday 26th November
A co-headline show from Dark Matter Promotions. New Yorkers Ceremony East Coast feature two members of A Place To Bury Strangers and share a love of distortion, lo-fi post-punk, ripped-raw and reckless psych. Tremours from LA are purveyors of hazy, intensely dreamy shoegaze textures. More>
3. MYRIAM GENDRON, The Trades Club (Hebden Bridge) – Sunday 10th November
Montreal-based artist accruing ever-complex folk inflections, touring in support of Mayday, her third LP. It follows her earlier, critically-hailed work, Not So Deep As A Well, reissued last year on Todmorden-based label Basin Rock. More>
4. EMBRACE, Victoria Theatre (Halifax) – Saturday 23rd November
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their big-selling Out Of Nothing album, local indie godheads from the 90s return to Halifax for a special evening of hit-filled euphoria. More>
5. ULTIMATE THUNDER + LANDS & BODY, The Puzzle (Sowerby Bridge) – Friday 22nd November
An ADRA Promotions event. Headliners Ultimate Thunder are “post-everything learning disability-forward avant space rock a la Hawkwind, The Fall, PiL.” Named by The Big Issue as ‘The Most Punk Rock Band in Britain’, Ultimate Thunder had national success with their debut self titled album, receiving praise from like of The Guardian, The BBC and Quietus. ADRA’s Andy Abbott will be performing in the support slot with his new band Lands And Body. More>
6. THE HAZY JANES, The Grayston Unity (Halifax) – Friday 29th November
Adrenaline-fuelled local blues-rock duo return to the Grayston to celebrate the launch of their highly-anticipated self-titled debut album. More>
7. BENJAMIN FRANCIS LEFTWICH, The Trades Club (Hebden Bridge) – Sunday 17th November
Emotive folk-based singer-songwriter from York. Leftwich released his first album Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm in 2011 which peaked at #35 on the UK charts. He has released four further albums since, the most recent in February 2024. Leftwich has also co-written with other artists, including The 1975, Holly Humberstone and CMAT . More>
8. RAMONA’S TEA PARTY + DEEP SEA LEMONS, The Blind Pig (Sowerby Bridge) – Thursday 14th November
After their fun-tastic set at Rebellion 2024, Norwegian pop-punk firework Ramona’s Tea Party returns to the UK for an autumn tour. More>
9. OPTIMO (ESPACIO), The Golden Lion (Todmorden) – Friday 29th November
Subversive, genre-mashing stuff in store as Glasgow’s finest Optimo (Espacio) return to The Lion, joined by local DJs Instant Party. Optimo are the duo JD Twitch and JG Wilkes, renowned and respected for their memorable and ecstatic sets. They were responsible for the Glasgow nightclub of the same name which ran from November 1997 until April 2010. One of the most important and ground-breaking clubs of the past two decades (at one point earning them the prestigious title of Mixmag ‘Club of the Year’). More>
10. THE CAVS + ADAM RUSS, The Grayston Unity (Halifax) – Saturday 9th November
Manchester based indie-rock five-piece, The Cavs, pride themselves on their high-energy riff-busting live shows. Expect catchy, powerful tunes and deft, thought-provoking lyrics. More>
