Culturedale Youth Music Takeover Boot Camp
Love music? Want to get involved in the local grassroots music scene?
We’re looking to form a collective of 6-8 young people (under 25 years old) based in Calderdale to be the next generation of musicians, organisers and cultural activists. If you’re a budding musician, promoter, technician, writer, designer or music enthusiast and want to make things happen HERE NOW then we want to hear from you.
An 8-week programme of hands-on learning and skill-sharing will explore …
– How to put on gigs and live music events (anywhere!)
– The technology and logistics behind the scenes
– Setting up DIY record labels and getting your music out there
– Creating zines / blogs / websites to build the community
– Organising festivals and all-dayers and working together
– Careers in and beyond the music industry, on and off-stage!
With site visits and opportunities to meet and chat with …
– Local grassroots music venues and art spaces, including The Grayston Unity, The Blind Pig, The Puzzle Hall, The Trades Club, The Golden Lion and more
– musicians, promoters and programme managers
– technicians and behind the scenesters
– labels, bloggers, content-creators, live streamers and industry professionals
The boot camp will end with you organising your own gig or music event at a venue in Calderdale, promoted as part of the finale of Culturedale: Calderdale’s Year of Culture.
How Do I Get Involved?
The Do It Together Youth Music boot camp will run one evening a week between February and April 2025. Most sessions will take place in Halifax Town Centre with trips and visits to other towns in Calderdale (Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden). Participation is free and travel bursaries will be available.
